Pros and Cons of Free Proxies
The advantages include the following:
- You can try various anonymous proxies, which are easy to find through an internet search;
- A multitude of available options, with which you can work relatively normally;
- More or less reliable concealment of the user's real IP address. However, there are more disadvantages to free proxies:
- Good free proxies are hard to find, as most of them lack the necessary consumer qualities: high security, protection, data encryption, etc.;
- Updated free proxies rarely truly protect against external threats such as phishing attacks, traffic interception, malware (viruses) attacks, and data theft;
- Many free proxies are dead, non-working, added to various blacklists, or blocked;
- Slow performance;
- Lack of customer support or low its quality.
Basically, any free proxy is either a advertising trick, allowing a person to try paid proxies for free, with a proposal to unlock all useful features only after subscribing, or redirecting traffic to a landing page to later sell something to the visitor or steal their data.
Characteristics of Paid Proxies
As is usual, any paid product has much higher value compared to a free counterpart. Proxies are no exception. Moreover, the cost of paid proxies is usually modest — a few dollars a month, with discounts for annual subscriptions. Their advantages can confidently be summarized as follows:
- High level of security, provided by quality technological solutions and encryption. Not every proxy has traffic encryption by default, but it can be provided to paid users upon request or as an integral part of the service.
- "Clean," "white" proxies assign a unique IP address to each paid client, minimizing or completely eliminating the risk of address blocking. This is also known as "trustworthiness."
- Anonymity. Paid proxies provide their users with complete and reliable anonymity on the Internet, protecting against tracking and DNS leaks.
- The ability to choose from an extensive pool of IP addresses (both static and dynamic, according to the client's preferences), which can provide the broadest geographical coverage. Good paid proxy providers may have hundreds of thousands or even millions of available IP addresses.
- High-quality customer support. Professional service and the ability to contact an operator 24/7 to resolve any technical issue — this is an important aspect of a customer-oriented business. Therefore, a truly good provider should ensure high-quality customer support.
Conclusion
Although free proxies exist and even provide some service, truly reliable and secure solutions for work are only paid ones. Their price is low — starting from a few dollars a month. But the set of advantages that distinguish them from free solutions is crucial for those who need safe, fast, and reliable internet operation.
