Pros and Cons of Free Proxies
The advantages include the following:
- You can try various anonymous proxies, which are easy to find through a search on the Internet;
- Numerous available options to work with relatively normally;
- More or less reliable concealment of the user's real IP address. However, free proxies have more drawbacks:
- Good free proxies are hard to find because most of them do not possess the necessary consumer qualities: high security, protection, data encryption, etc.;
- Free updated proxies rarely truly protect against external threats such as phishing attacks, traffic interception, malware (viruses), and data theft;
- Among free proxies, there are many dead, non-working, blacklisted, or blocked ones;
- Slow performance;
- Lack of customer support or low quality of support.
Basically, any free proxy is either a marketing stunt, allowing a person to try paid proxies for free, with the offer to unlock all useful features only after subscription payment, or a redirect of traffic to a landing page to later sell something to visitors or steal their data.
Characteristics of Paid Proxies
As is usually the case, any paid product has much higher value compared to its free counterpart. Proxies are no exception. At the same time, the cost of paid proxies is usually modest — a few dollars per month, with discounts for annual subscriptions. Their advantages can confidently include the following points:
- High level of security, provided by quality technological solutions and encryption. By default, not every proxy has traffic encryption, but it can be provided to paid users upon request or as an integral part of the service.
- "Clean," "white" proxies give a unique IP address to each paid client, so the risks of the address being blocked are minimal or completely absent. This is also called "trustworthiness."
- Anonymity. Paid proxies ensure complete and reliable anonymity online, protecting against tracking and DNS leaks.
- The ability to choose from an extensive pool of IP addresses (both static and dynamic, according to client preferences), which can provide the broadest geographical coverage. A good paid proxy provider may have hundreds of thousands or even millions of available IP addresses.
- High quality customer support. Professional service and the ability to contact an operator 24/7 to resolve any technical problems are important components of a customer-oriented business. Therefore, a truly good provider should ensure high-quality customer support.
Conclusion
Despite the fact that free proxies exist and even provide some level of service, truly reliable and secure solutions for work are only paid ones. Their price is low — starting from a few dollars per month. But the set of advantages that distinguishes them from free solutions is decisive for those who need safe, fast, and reliable internet operation.
