Why use a proxy for Tor?
Despite the extensive capabilities of the browser, connecting to a proxy server before connecting directly to Tor can significantly enhance user protection. This solution will help achieve the following objectives:
- Hide information regarding the use of the Tor browser. There are cases when the use of Tor is prohibited by the provider, certain organizations, or authorities. Connecting directly makes the connection visible. However, if connected through a proxy, traffic will be masked by rerouting through an intermediary server. As a result, it creates the impression that the user is using a regular browser.
- Increase anonymity level. Using Tor itself provides protection by encrypting traffic in multiple layers. A proxy adds another additional intermediate layer between the user and the network. Even if someone attempts targeted traffic monitoring, they will only see a connection to the proxy server, not to Tor. A high level of anonymity is especially important for users from countries with strict censorship, human rights defenders, journalists, and many others. Thanks to a proxy, even in case of attacks or data leaks, anonymity will be preserved.

- Open Tor.
- Click on the "Menu" icon in the upper right corner, then select the "Settings" section.
- Choose the "Connections" section, then scroll down to the "Configure Internet proxy access" block. In this block, select "Configure."
- Enter the details of your proxy server. This requires selecting the type (SOCKS5/HTTP), specifying the IP and port, and, if necessary, entering login and password for authentication. All necessary information can be obtained from your provider.
- Save your settings, then restart Tor. To ensure that the proxy is working, open Tor and visit any IP check website. The displayed address should show the server's IP, not your real one. For the proxy to work effectively and perform all its functions, choose a reliable provider.
