Reasons to Rotate IP Addresses
Every device connected to the Internet has its unique IP address. If a large number of requests from one IP to a particular server (website) begin to arrive, the owner or operator of the server may consider this suspicious for various reasons and may block this IP either permanently or temporarily:
- Activity of bots or other automated services that either collect information from the site en masse or attempt to disrupt its normal functioning;
- Risk of a DDoS attack on the site, which could overwhelm it;
- The site may be intended specifically for human users, not robots, and multiple automated requests indicate a violation of this policy;
- Security issues, such as attempts to bypass CAPTCHA, register, or tamper with data;
- Attempts to bypass daily usage limits or other restrictions on limited content. Therefore, if a user with a specific IP does not want to be blocked permanently or temporarily, IP address rotation is most often used, where one IP address is replaced with another.
When is it really necessary to change your IP address
What is considered "suspicious" activity by websites may actually be normal business activity. For example, many modern professions require using the internet to collect large volumes of data as part of a single major task or repetitive similar tasks:
- Building complex queries to chatbots, which require in-depth analysis of the question (within one request, a chatbot may send requests to hundreds or thousands of online resources in a few minutes).
- Using a single outgoing IP from a corporate network where hundreds or thousands of employees work, each performing different tasks and making independent requests.
- Operation of automated internal systems that gather data (data synchronization, update checks, aggregation).
- Collecting large amounts of data, which requires many similar requests to the same database where this data is stored.
- Working with cloud infrastructure, where requests to different applications can be made from a single ingress IP.
- Analytical and monitoring tools operating in real-time.
- Data aggregation services. If there is no data use agreement signed with the owner of the specific server that receives such requests, suspicious activity will be blocked. Thus, IP addresses will need to be changed.
Methods for changing IP addresses
In the matter of changing IP addresses, rotational proxies come into play. You can order their setup and operation through our company at the best prices. Rotating proxies are services that change addresses according to a predetermined logic. Currently, four methods of rotation are used in practice:
- With preset intervals. This means that after a certain period (e.g., 1 hour), a new IP address is automatically assigned to the user, regardless of whether they need it now or not.
- Random rotation. Each new user or session is assigned a random IP. In this case, the user has no control over which IP is assigned to them.
- Batch rotation. IPs are changed after several connection sessions, for example, every 5, 10, or another number.
- Manual change. The user changes their IP themselves when necessary. They may be given the option to choose an address or be assigned a random new IP.
Practical approaches to rotation
To set up residential proxies with rotation for changing IP addresses, you can:
- Install a browser extension or software on your computer/laptop/phone, configured to switch IPs according to your needs;
- Write your own code to change the IP, suitable only for advanced users capable of coding (or adept at bubble coding);
- Use professional solutions offered by companies that provide IP rotation services. For example, you can acquire paid proxy rotation services through a subscription to such a service.
