Reasons to Rotate IP Addresses
Every device connected to the Internet has its own unique IP address. If a large number of requests start coming from one IP to a particular server (website), the owner or operator of the server may consider this suspicious for various reasons and may block that IP permanently or temporarily:
- Bot activity or other automated services that either mass-collect information from the site or attempt to disrupt its normal operation;
- The risk of a DDoS attack on the site, which could bring it down;
- The site may be intended primarily for human users, not robots, and multiple automated requests indicate a violation of this policy;
- Security issues such as attempts to bypass CAPTCHA, register illegitimate accounts, or data substitution;
- Attempts to bypass daily usage limits or other forms of abuse of limited content. Therefore, if a user with a specific IP does not want to be blocked permanently or temporarily, IP address rotation is most often used, where one IP address is replaced by another.
When it is really necessary to change your IP address
What is considered "suspicious" activity by websites can actually be normal business activity. Many modern professions involve using the internet to collect large volumes of data within a single big task or repetitive similar tasks:
- Forming complex queries to chatbots, where deep analysis of the question is required (within one request, a chatbot can send queries to hundreds or thousands of online resources in a few minutes).
- Using a single outgoing IP from a corporate network where hundreds or thousands of employees work, each performing different tasks and creating independent requests.
- Working automated internal systems that gather data (data synchronization, update checking, aggregation).
- Collecting large amounts of data that require many similar requests to the same database where this data is stored.
- Working with cloud infrastructure, where interactions with different applications can be made from a single entry IP.
- Analytical and monitoring tools operating online.
- Data aggregation services. If there is no data usage agreement signed with the owner of a specific server receiving such requests, then suspicious activity will be blocked. Therefore, an IP address change will be necessary.
Methods of changing IP addresses
The issue of changing IP addresses involves rotational proxies. You can order their setup and operation through our company at the best prices. Rotation proxies are services that change the address according to a predetermined logic. Currently, four rotation methods are used in practice:
- With pre-set intervals. This means that after a certain period (for example, 1 hour), a new IP address is automatically assigned to the user, regardless of whether it is needed right now or not.
- Random rotation. Each new user or new session is assigned a random IP. In this context, the user cannot influence which IP they will get.
- Batch rotation. The IP is changed after several sessions, for example, 5, 10, or another number.
- Manual change. The user changes their IP themselves when needed. This can either involve choosing a specific address or being assigned a randomly new IP.
Practical approaches to rotation
To set up residential proxies with rotation for IP address switching, you can:
- Install a browser extension or a program on your computer/laptop/phone to configure IP change options according to your needs;
- Write your own code to change the IP, which is suitable only for advanced users capable of programming (or doing Vibe coding well);
- Use professional solutions offered by companies that provide IP rotation services. For example, you can purchase proxy services with rotation through a paid subscription to such a service.
